One of the most awesome things you’ll ever see in your life are dolphins swimming in the wild, in nature, near Virginia Beach. It’s a mesmerizing sight, perhaps because it’s something you don’t see everyday. It’s like a glimpse into a whole other world, and you feel lucky for just having witnessed a brief moment of it.
Did you know dolphins tend to work their way along the coast of Virginia Beach in groups known as pods? It’s rare to see just one, since they tend to travel in pairs and pods. You’re apt to spot their dorsal fins above the water. They swim very fast. On occasion, they’ll jump out of the water– another marvelous moment to witness. These creatures are majestic in their own right– some weighing as much as 500 pounds and up to 10 feet in length!
There’s a certain beauty and grace to the way dolphins swim, and in Virginia Beach the best time to see them in the waters off the coast would be between Memorial Day and Labor Day. So, basically, summertime is a great time for dolphin-watching. Over the years dolphins have been known to help scare away sharks from divers so they wouldn’t get hurt, while also helping divers locate underwater treasure.
